How It's Done

The process of making a leaded stained glass window or panel

Once a design has been finalised with the client, an accurate pattern is drawn up. Each piece of glass is hand-picked to give the best colour, effect and texture, then cut and ground accurately to fit the shapes of the pattern.

The lead is then cut to fit each shape and join, held in place with traditional horse-shoe nails. Once all the pieces have been assembled, the lead is cleaned and soldered on both sides.

The gaps between the lead channel and the glass are then cemented to make the whole piece watertight and impervious to the elements.
